At Rocky Mountains Distributing, we often encounter issues stemming from improper cleaning and reassembly of Taylor ice cream equipment. Skipping important steps can lead to issues like bacteria contaminating your product. It can also result in broken equipment if parts are misplaced or worn out.

To help you maintain your Taylor soft serve equipment effectively, we have compiled detailed instructions for draining, disassembling, cleaning, reassembling, and sanitizing. While these steps are specifically for a Taylor C712 soft serve freezer, they can be beneficial for most Taylor ice cream machines.

Draining

  1. Take the machine out of freeze mode and put it into wash mode.

  2. Open the valve and drain all product from the machine.

  3. Remove the pin from the feed tube, slowly pull the feed tube out, and continue to drain the product.

  4. Press the pump button once to get the product out of the pump, and continue draining until all of the product is removed.

Cleaning the Machine

  1. Gather cleaning materials (bucket, brushes, sanitizer, lube, tune-up kit).

  2. Slowly pour 2 gallons of water into the hopper, removed the pump and feed tube, and place them in the bucket.

  3. Put the machine back in wash mode, clean the inside of the hopper with a brush, and drain the water. Repeat 2-3 times until the water runs clear.

Disassembly

  1. Remove the pump drive shaft using the pump removal tool.

  2. Disassemble the door by removing the valve handles, draw valves, and door screws.

  3. Pull the door out, and set aside.

  4. Remove the beater assembly and removed the blades and shoes from it.

  5. Remove drive shaft from the barrel and bleeder valves, draw valves, star caps, bushings, and O-rings from the door.

  6. Place all parts in a bucket.

Cleaning the Parts

  1. Fill a sink with warm, soapy water.

  2. Remove all O-rings using the O-ring removal tool (not a knife or sharp object). Be careful not to stretch the O-rings out and if you see any that are nicked or too loose, replace them.

  3. Disassemble to pump by removing piston and O-rings.

  4. Clean the door, pump, smaller parts, beater assembly, draw valves, and bleeder valves with appropriate brushes.

  5. Rinse all parts with warm water and set aside to air dry.

Assembly

  1. Place O-rings on the pump drive shaft, apply lube around each O-ring (not on the hex head), and insert the shaft.

  2. Assemble the pump: place the black flap on the white cylinder, add the O-ring, insert into the pump handle, add an O-ring to the piston, slide into the pump, attach the handle, insert the pin, and secure the pump with the locking mechanism.

  3. Assemble the feed tube: place the gasket on the tube, add O-rings, and set aside in the hopper.

  4. Assemble the barrels: add the boot seal to the drive shaft, click into place, lube the inside, slide the drive shaft back into the barrel, and lock.

  5. Reassemble the beater: add blades and shoes, insert into the barrel, and align with the drive shaft.

  6. Reassemble the door: add O-rings to bleeder valves and lube, and insert into the door, ensuring O-rings stay in place.

  7. Add O-rings to draw valves, apply lube, and insert outer draw valves first, followed by the middle valve (ensure window faces forward). For the middle valve, add an O-ring and H-ring, lube both, and insert into the door.

  8. Attach bushings and door gaskets to the door, and reattach with screws.

  9. Push draw valves up to attach the handles, and secure with the pin.

Sanitizing

  1. Mix Stera Sheen with cool water in a bucket.

  2. Place the brush in the hopper to prevent splashing and slowly pour sanitizer water into the hopper.

  3. Soak the feed tube by placing it on the floor od the hopper.

  4. Draw sanitizer water into the pump by pressing the manual pump button.

  5. Run the wash cycle for a few minutes to let the sanitizer soak the parts.

  6. Drain the sanitizer water out and press the manual pump button to release the sanitizer water from the pump.

  7. Move the feed tube out of the way before pouring in the product into the hopper.
